The CHAC elects its own officers, directors; develops it’s own by-laws, schedules regular meetings, prepares its own budget, and engages in fundraising to support recreation programs at the community level in conjunction with a specific recreation center or program section.

Per the City of Alexandria, a Recreation Advisory Council is a group of existing recreation center customers including individuals or representatives of churches, schools, civic and service organizations, businesses and other local community organizations in partnership with center staff who meet on a regular basis to offer input and support for center and program section services.

Interested in volunteering, sharing a suggestion, or attending a CHAC meeting? Please complete our contact us form or send us an email at CharlesHoustonAC@gmail.com. The council is comprised of 100% community volunteers. We can always use the help supporting the recreation center and its programming.

The CHAC meets in-person at 6:00 PM at the Charles Houston Recreation Center on the second Tuesday of each month (January, March, May, July, September, and November). Community members wanting to attend should RSVP to CharlesHoustonAC@gmail.com.

Advisory Council meetings allow community members to:

  • Provide input on future recreation center initiatives.

  • Give feedback on existing programs and amenities.

  • Host fun, community-building events and activities.

  • Represent your neighborhood to ensure that Alexandria’s diverse needs are being met.
