Who Do We Serve?
The Charles Houston Advisory Council (CHAC) serves and supports the Charles Houston Recreation Center’s (CHRC) high priority unfunded needs through fundraising and community engagement.
From March - August 2023, the CHRC had attendance of 2, 482 teens across all activities with an average daily attendance of 24. The First Fridays program hosted 173 teens.
In the computer lab, “A group of children learned to use sound, explored it creating a song, and then recorded a birthday song for a member of the class with graphics and sprites. That was on a first lesson!!”
“Another student, who was initially reluctant to create anything, is making a movie of a panther! He’s so excited to make the movie quickly, but had to learn patience and take time to learn coding. Soon he’ll be able to move forward with new knowledge and skills to finish the movie.”
