Power-On/Power-Up Summer Camp
The City of Alexandria runs its Out of School Time Summer Camp Monday through Friday (9:00 AM - 6:00 PM) from June 20 - August 11, 2023 for resident children ages 6-14 years old.
The CHRC set a goal to raise $3,000 to cover registration fees (in whole or in-part) to an anticipated 85 campers, nearly half of which require financial assistance to attend.
Thanks to your support, the CHAC raised over $10,000 which will cover 100% of the fees for 61 participating children who need financial assistance. Without this support, they may not have been able to attend this vital community program.
Field Trips
The CHAC provided funding for the CHRC 2023 summer field trip bus charters, giving students the opportunity to visit four area attractions for education and fun:
Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History
Skate N Fun Zone
Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum
Six Flags America
Back to School Car Wash Fundraiser
Our August car wash fundraiser to support back to school needs and the teen center for area students was a fantastic success! Community residents, CHRC participants, and drivers passing by donated more than $850! Weren’t able to donate at the carwash? You can still make a difference and make a donation online. Just note note “Back to School” in the notes section. A special donor thank you to Yates Automotive for their in-kind gift of cleaning supplies and a Master Detail Package gift certificate ($399 value)!
Digital Equity Project
In 2021, the CHAC received an AT&T Grant to support a pilot Digital Equity Project for the After School Program and Summer Camp at CHRC.
CHRC & CHAC selected “CodeWizards for Schools” platform to teach Scratch and Python. Programs run June - August; One-hour Monday - Thursday for six weeks.
